Gemma Barden



Gemma Barden is the principal of Clark & Gay. She is a general practitioner Solicitor, who works in the areas of Conveyancing & Refinancing, Wills & Estates, Trusts, Relationship Property, Family Law, Employment & Enduring Powers of Attorney and other areas of general law.

Gemma is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington gaining a Bachelor of Law in and Bachelor of Arts in 2004. She joined Mike Curtis in practice as a Staff Solicitor in 2011, becoming partner in 2012, and then principal in May 2015.

Before joining Clark & Gay Gemma worked as a Staff Solicitor for a general practice law firm in Matamata. Prior to that, as a Judges’ Clerk at the Tauranga District Court, where she clerked for all resident judges within the region in the areas of criminal, civil and family.

Shiree Blackwell

Shiree Blackwell joined Clark & Gay in January 2017. 

Shiree is a senior solicitor with 16 years legal experience in Property and Commercial law.   She has previously worked in Hamilton and Tauranga and now advises Clark and Gay from a remote office in Fukuoka, Japan whilst she supports her husband on a Japanese Zespri assignement. 

Shiree brings practical commercial experience to her legal expertise as she has her own property investment portfolio centred in the Bay of Plenty and together with her husband has managed and owned a business in the Kiwifruit industry.

Tahlia Allsopp

Legal Executive


Tahlia Allsopp is Clark & Gay's Legal Executive, who works predominately in the areas of

  • Real estate sales and purchases (conveyancing) - residential, business and farming
  • Refinancing
  • Subdivisions
  • Business Purchases

She joined Clark & Gay, in 2008 as a Receptionist and progressed to the role of secretary.  She is now a qualified Legal Executive, having completing her Legal Executive Diploma in 2011. 

Tahlia is also Clark & Gay's Trust Accountant.

Melissa Samuels

Melissa joined our team in 2017 as a Legal Secretary and has since expanded her role to include Office Manager.  Melissa was previously a customer service manager, along with other administration roles in Waihi and Te Aroha.

Pauline Lokes

Estates Clerk


Pauline Lokes works as a Legal Secretary and Estate Clerk. 

Pauline has over 16 years experience in the legal profession where she has worked for several of New Zealand’s largest law firms, Barristers and a practitioner who is now a Family Court Judge.

Pauline has a broad knowledge of many areas of the law in her current role her key areas of work are litigation support, relationship property and estates.

Anne McLennan

Anne has recently moved home to the Bay of Plenty to be closer to family, after working in both Auckland and the South Island over the last 20 years.

Anne worked for Thomson Reuters Legal Publishing as an Account Manager for 16 years - 10 years in Auckland and 6 in Dunedin.  She was responsible for Otago University and the entire Otago and Southland region; for all Law firms and Local Councils. Prior to that she was employed by Butterworths/LexisNexis, and also has experience in Corporate Finance Account Management and working in Local Government as Assistant Town Clerk . She has a solid background in administration, Online library and Legal Software Systems sales, frontline customer retention and contract management experience. Anne has joined us as our Innovation & Systems Co-ordinator as we move to new systems management.
